Veljanov vs Nirvana

Listening to Alexander Veljanov's "Black Girl", there's definately something familiar...it's the same song Nirvana called "My Girl" on their unplugged session.

But the name is obviously different, as well as the lyrics. (Nirvanas found here: http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/My-Girl-lyrics-Nirvana/2404FED93163245A48256D410022C8B4 Veljanov's I haven't been able to find an accurate version of)

Any idea where the song originates, and which is the original?

you are right - it has nothing to do with nirvana. "black girl" is a cover version (veljanov prefers the word "reinterpretation" though) of a negro spiritual song sang by slaves in the 1920ies

Yeah, I figured it was a cover of something when Nirvana did it too.

I wonder what made them change it from black girl to my girl?

Does Veljanov use the same lyrics? With the "his head was found in a railroad part" part...it didn't sound like it. But it's hard to hear somethimes. The lyrics I found for his version were totally off.
