I ’ve got no idea about the song yet, but I just wanted to add one little thing to that fascinating interpretation thread from ages ago:
the first thing I associated with the word "Indigo" was of course "blue", but in the sense of "to be blue"= "to have the blues", to feel down etc. (it doesn ’t mean "drunk" in English, as far as I know).
This may be just one of many aspects in its intended meaning, of course. (Or meanwhile known to all, or merely nonsense, that ’s up to you... )
